Cyprus National Rugby Team – Participation in the 2nd Rugby 7s Trophy Tournament 2017

The Cyprus National Rugby 7s team is participating this weekend in the second and final of the 2 European 7s Rugby Trophy tournaments. The 1st Tournament was held on the 3 & 4 June 2017 in Ostrava, Czech Republic where our National Team played well and finished in 6th place out of a total of 12 teams. The results of the group matches found Cyprus finishing second with 8 points with 2 wins (Moldova and Lithuania) and a draw after a close match with Luxembourg where the Mouflons drew in the last seconds of the match. The 2nd day draw was not kind to Cyprus that faced Sweden the eventual winners of the tournament. Cyprus losing 24-7. In the final position games, Cyprus beat Croatia 29-14 and was defeated by Israel 24-12. Sweden won first place beating Romania in the final.

Cyprus will play Croatia at 9:22 (Cyprus time) and the Czech Republic at 13:07 (Cyprus time) hoping to do well and prepare for the last game on Saturday against Sweden. The games will finish on Sunday.

Rugby Europe Men’s Sevens Trophy 2017 have 2 legs – Ostrava (June 3/4) and Bucharest (June 10/11th). 12 teams compete to win the Series and to be promoted in Rugby Europe Sevens Grand Prix Series 2018.
