Match day 9 which many rugby analysts deemed “super duper “ rugby day was abuzz with thrilling match line ups as teams fought to get playoffs positions. The top 4 teams on the table clashed this weekend.

Nakuru RFC vs KCB RFC-The 2nd placed Nakuru hosted the table leaders KCB at their Nakuru Athletics Club which has earned the title-the rugby cauldron from the undefeated streak the hosts enjoyed on those grounds. Both teams came into the game undefeated and the stands were filled to capacity with fans that thronged the grounds to witness “The Battle of The Titans!” A well balanced 1st half saw the more experienced KCB side enjoy a 12-10 lead heading into half time. A meaner KCB side extended their lead to 17-10 just minutes into 2nd half through an unconverted Brian Omondi try. The hosts responded with a converted Dan Gachichi try that had the hosts level scores with just a few minutes left to the game! A late penalty handed the hosts a hard-earned victory to see them level points at the top of the table with the visitors!

The defending champions Kenya Harlequins hosted a young vibrant university side Strathmore Leos in another top 4 table clash. Both sides came into the match having lost their previous matches but the visitors sought to establish dominance in top flight rugby to dismiss references of being under dogs. The Quins line-up fielded experienced players but that did not seem to deter the visitors who went on to thwart their hosts 31-20 in what seemed to be a 1 sided affair up until the dying minutes of the 2nd half.

Total Oil Nondies were hosted by another university side Mean Machine RFC and went ahead to win 15-11 in a well balanced match. The hundreds of fans that turned up to cheer on the University side turned out to be just what they needed to avoid a total rugby whooping by the more experienced Nondies side!

Another university side, Blakblad RFC hosted Mwamba RFC at the Kenyatta University grounds. Mwamba went into the match as clear favorites considering their hosts are yet to win a game in their debut season in the Kenya Cup. Mwamba won 40-23.

In Western Kenya, The Western Bulls hosted Homeboyz RFC at the Kakamega high school grounds. Homeboyz went into the match as clear favorites considering their recent top-form shown by impressive wins in their previous matches. However Bulls, despite a huge loss in their previous match, went into the match boosting on an unbeaten streak at their home ground. Bulls dominated the visitors in the 1st half but a rejuvenated Homeboyz side came into the 2nd half and went on to win the match 21-22.

Another Western Kenya clash went down at The Kisumu Polytechnic with Kisumu RFC hosting Impala RFC. The Kenya Cup match experienced delays as match refs were declined by both sides. Eventually the match kicked off albeit an hour late after match officials were replaced. Impala won 20-24.

Here is a look at the league standings as of 27th January 27, 2013

1.KCB (37)
2.Nakuru (37)
3.Strathmore (34)
4.Mwamba (30)
5.Homeboyz (28
6.Quins (26)
7.Nondies (25)
8.Western Bulls (17
9.Impala (15)
10.MeanMachine (13)
11.Kisumu (6)
12.Blakblad (1)

Follow @RedefinedRugby The Nakuru RFC team that beat KCB RFC on match Day 9!
