Hungary kicked off the RWC 2015 qualification process in Europe against Bulgaria a year ago with a 28-23 win
Hungary have rocketed 10 places to 70th in the latest IRB World Rankings on the back of an emphatic 67-5 win over hosts Bulgaria in the European Nations Cup 2014 Division 2C on Saturday.
The Hungarians scored 10 tries in the win in Sofia with flanker Daniel Toth scoring a hat-trick alongside braces from hooker David Darguier and wing Gyorgy Komuves in the victory that keeps them second in Division 2C behind Cyprus.
While Hungary surge up the rankings, the defeat sees Bulgaria plummet 10 places to 85th with Nigeria, Jamaica, Slovenia, Zambia and St Vincent & The Grenadines all climbing one place as a result.
This was the only match over the weekend to result in positional changes to the rankings, although New Zealand, Australia and Israel all improved their rating points with victories against South Africa, Argentina and Luxembourg respectively.
New Zealand were guaranteed to end The Rugby Championship as the number one side in the world regardless of the outcome of their title decider at Ellis Park, but by winning a nine-try thriller 38-27 the All Blacks have improved their rating by almost a point.
The world champions now have a 5.19 rating point cushion over South Africa, who despite the defeat are still more than two points ahead of England, the leading northern hemisphere nation in the rankings.

Australia’s emphatic 54-17 victory over Argentina in Rosario improved their own rating by more than nine tenths, but the Wallabies still remain 1.51 points below England. They did, though, avoid the prospect of dropping to a lowest ever sixth position with victory over Los Pumas.
Argentina are still looking for their first victory since joining The Rugby Championship and remain 10th, slipping closer to Tonga below than they now are to Scotland above.
The weekend’s other match saw Israel remain in the hunt for a place at Rugby World Cup 2015 with a 26-12 victory over Luxembourg in round two of the European play-off process. Had the winning margin been slightly more, Israel would have risen one place to a new high of 47th.
While Israel can now look forward to the next round against the Netherlands on 26 October, Luxembourg remain 92nd in the rankings.
