Georgia and Fiji got their Pacific Nations Cup campaigns off to a winning start on Saturday as they saw off Tonga and Samoa respectively.
The Lelos were narrow 16-15 winners over Tonga on their tournament bow as Soso Matiashvili scored all of their points, including a try.
David Halaifonua and Viliami Lolohea crossed for Tonga in Suva, Fiji, but ultimately they came up short as their opener ended in defeat.
The other game played at the same venue saw Fiji edge Samoa 24-22 in another close contest as they got four tries to Samoa’s three.
Vereniki Goneva, Kini Murimurivalu, Henry Seniloli and Ben Volavola went over for Fiji in front of their home supporters, with Jack Lam, Dwayne Polataivaia and Melani Matavao crossing for Samoa, who must now regroup ahead of next weekend’s clash with Tonga. Fiji face Georgia.
He's done it again! Soso Matiashvili loves scoring epic tries, and this is up there with the best of them!
